Tulane Football Early Signing Period Recap: Defense

BY JAKE WEINSTOCK

During the early signing period (December 4-6, 2024), Tulane football signed 15 high school recruits, for the class of 2025. Of those, there are 6 defenders, 8 offensive players, and 1 "athlete." Today we will take a look at those set to play defense, and which ones are expected to enroll in January and therefore participate in spring practices. Please note that we will discuss these signees in alphabetic order.

  1. Nik Alston, a 6'3", 260 pound defensive lineman from Thompson High School in Birmingham, Alabama. Alston held other offers from Colorado, Georgia Tech, Washington, Minnesota, NC State, Troy, Liberty, Appalachian State, East Carolina, Georgia Southern, ULL (as an aside, it's atrocious that ESPN has agreed to label them as "Louisiana"), Jacksonville State, UAB, and ULM. He is ranked as a 3-star member of the 2024 class by 247, and the 43rd best player in the State of Alabama, in his class. Alston was temporarily committed to Liberty during the summer of 2024, before taking a visit to Tulane. He was a solid commit from June on. Alston is expected to enroll early, in January, 2025, and participate in spring practices.

  2. PaLanding Drammeh, a 6'2", 300 pound defensive lineman from Hoover High School in Hoover, Alabama. Drammeh had offers from Memphis, Navy, Georgia Tech, Appalachian State, Buffalo, Jacksonville State, Troy, UAB, among some others. He had been a commitment of Troy from April-June, 2024 (note that this was after Jon Sumrall took the Tulane job, in December of 2023), before decommitting from Troy and then committing to Tulane in July, 2024. He was a solid commit from then on. He is ranked as a 3-star member of the 2024 class by 247, and the 54th best player in the State of Alabama, in his class. Drammeh is expected to enroll early, in January, 2025, and participate in spring practices.

He held other offers from Ole Miss, Arizona State, Boston College, UCF, Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Troy, UTSA, Louisiana Tech, ULM, Tulsa and USF, among others. Cole Heard and his staff at Tulane have been on Hammond for a long time. He was offered in January of 2024, about a month after this staff's arrival, uptown. Hammond committed to Tulane at the end of September, 2024, and did not deviate, thereafter. He is ranked as a 3-star member of the 2024 class by 247, and the 40th best player in the State of Louisiana, in his class.
